Dangerous So-Called “Equality Act” Passes First Hurdle

Last night, Nancy Pelosi and her fellow progressives jammed through the so-called “Equality Act,” one of the most blatant attacks on Life, Family, and Liberty in our nation’s long history. All 221 Democrats voted for the bill, along with just three Republicans (none from California).

If you contacted your representative this week, THANK YOU. Even though H.R. 5 passed the House, it is vital that our elected officials hear from us and know we are watching. In fact, several Republicans who previously supported the bill switched their votes in response to opposition from people of faith!

Radical activists have long aimed to formalize legislation punishing Americans who believe in Biblical marriage and the nuclear family, or who oppose LGBT initiatives like transgender surgeries and hormone infusions for children. But as a sign of how unpopular these provisions are with the American people, the “Equality Act” was never heard in committee, and Pelosi barely had the numbers to pass it in the House.

So, what’s next?

Despite clearing this first hurdle, the U.S. Senate is a much higher threshold. We expect rigorous debate on the bill and serious pressure on the body’s more moderate members like Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), and Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), to give into progressives’ demands. Given the current 50-50 split between Republicans and Democrats, Vice President Harris may very well be called in to cast the tie-breaking vote.

Still, I cannot overstate the seriousness of this legislation and what it means for America and for California. We need to remain engaged and do everything we can to kill this bill and preserve free speech and religious liberty for all Americans.

California’s two U.S. Senators, Dianne Feinstein and Alex Padilla, are thought to be in support of this legislation, but we still encourage you to contact them and let them know that you prefer your constitutional rights over radical social experimentation:
