Last month, Governor Gavin Newsom announced that California is investing $20 million into expanding abortion in the state. This funding is set to increase the number of abortion providers and equip pharmacists to “provide comprehensive reproductive health services,” according to a press release from Governor Newsom’s Office.
The $20 million will be used to launch the Reproductive Health Service Corps (RHSC) and the Pharmacists Comprehensive Abortion and Reproductive Health Empowerment (Pharmacists CARE). The RHSC will concentrate on educating abortion providers and training medical professionals to refer patients for abortions. Meanwhile, the Pharmacists CARE program is intended to increase accessibility to chemical abortions and encourage more pharmacies to provide the abortion pill.
“In this volatile time after the overturning of Roe v. Wade by extremist judges, California will continue to support women in California and across the country,” Governor Newsom said. “We have invested hundreds of millions of dollars to expand access to services, support people in need of care, and protect people providing care. Regardless of what out-of-touch and radical politicians may do, California will continue its nation-leading fight for reproductive freedom.”
The press release continuously uses phrases such as “reproductive health services” or “reproductive freedom” as egregiously misleading euphemisms for the killing of innocent preborn life. Abortion has nothing to do with reproductive health care. Reproduction has already taken place, and the new life is fully human and worthy of protection from the moment of conception. Further, “health care” doesn’t intentionally end lives.
In the press release, California Health Human Services Agency Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly wrote, “With this $20 million investment, California is embarking on a transformative journey to ensure that reproductive health care is both accessible and equitable. This investment marks a significant stride toward a healthier, more inclusive future for California.”
Again, California leaders are lying to women. Abortion does nothing to improve a woman’s health. It only causes her physical and emotional harm. The abortion pill, for example, puts women at risk for infection, injury, loss of fertility, immune system inhibition, depression, and even death. Every abortion, whether chemical or surgical, leaves women with deep pain or regret. The only real solution to a crisis pregnancy is to help the mother eliminate the crisis, not the child.
As governor, Newsom has signed a slew of pro-abortion bills and allocated millions in state funds toward enhancing the security of abortion clinics, establishing task forces dedicated to abortion advocacy, promoting the abortion pill, and more. Thanks to the left’s hard work, abortions in California in 2023 have increased by 16% compared to 2020. This new initiative will only make matters worse while selling deadly lies to women and infringing on the rights of taxpayers by using their money to promote a pro-abortion agenda.
