On Tuesday morning, Congressional Democrats introduced a $1.7 trillion government funding bill. With a government shutdown looming, legislators have only until Friday at midnight to review and vote on it. Unsurprisingly, the bill is full of radical LGBT-themed and partisan special interest projects.
HR 2617 would allocate $575,000 “for family planning/reproductive health, including in areas where population growth threatens biodiversity or endangered species.” In other words, the bill aims to expand “access” to abortion, an anti-Christian practice that taxpayers should never be forced to fund.
To make matters worse, an astounding $11 million would be spent on LGBT-themed special interest projects, including $1.2 million for “LGBTQIA+ Pride Centers” at San Diego Community College and other LGBT centers in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Millions more dollars would be spent on highly controversial “diversity, equity, and inclusion” special interest projects.
Connor Semelsberger, director of Federal Affairs for Life and Human Dignity at Family Research Council, commented on the many special interest earmarks in the bill.
“The omnibus appropriations bill totaling 4,155 pages (over 6,000 pages when you include all relevant report language) is filled with partisan earmarks that do nothing more than support a radical social agenda. These include everything from diversity equity and inclusion trainings for Rhode Island school teachers to millions in LGBT-specific programing — even an LGBT history museum right in Senator Chuck Schumer’s (D-N.Y.) back yard. This year’s partisan earmarks prove just why they were banned in the first place. They serve nothing else then to line the country’s special interest groups with hard working American’s tax dollars.”
Semelsberger is absolutely right. Hard-working Americans are suffering from high inflation and economic instability while Congress is using their money to further a progressive, anti-Christian agenda. Instead of pandering to the woke mob, Congressional leaders should be focused on the issues that concern every American.
Further, this spending bill would not only fund radical partisan initiatives that many Americans oppose, but it would also worsen inflation and the national debt.
The good news is that 13 House Republicans released a statement strongly opposing the bill, saying that it fails to control spending while inflation is high and fails to “secure and defend our borders.” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy endorsed the letter Tuesday.
“We will oppose any rule, any consent request, suspension voice vote, or roll call vote of any such Senate bill….The American people did not elect us–any of us–to continue the status quo in Washington, as this bill will undoubtedly do. They didn’t elect us to borrow and spend more money we do not have as interest rates skyrocket in response to government spending fueled inflation, eating away at the livelihoods of Americans…Senate Republicans have the 41 votes necessary to stop this and should do so now and show the Americans who elected you that they weren’t wrong in doing so,” the letter reads.
Hopefully, the remaining Senate Republicans will do as this letter asks of them and reject HR 2617. The American people deserve better than leaders who care more about advancing a radical ideology than protecting the livelihoods of their constituents.
