Last week, the FBI raided the home of pro-life Catholic author and speaker Mark Houck for allegedly pushing an abortion clinic volunteer in October 2021. This incident reveals a clear double standard against pro-lifers from the Biden administration’s Department of Justice.
According to a LifeSite News report, at 7:05 a.m., Houck, his wife, and their seven children were met with a group of 25 to 30 FBI agents in around 15 vehicles. They swarmed the residence with rifles pointed in firing position and threatened to bust down the front door.
“The kids were all just screaming. It was all just very scary and traumatic,” said Houck’s wife.
Houck has been accused of violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, which prohibits the use of force to intimidate or prevent someone from receiving or providing an abortion. However, Houck has pleaded not guilty to two counts.
Houck, a pro-life sidewalk counselor, was confronted by an abortion center “escort” who was yelling vile, insulting language at his 12-year-old son and invading his space. When the aggressor leaned forward, Houck pushed him to the ground.
Currently, Mark Houck faces felony charges that could result in up to 11 years in prison and up to $350,000 in fines.
Houck’s attorney Peter Breen claims that President Joe Biden’s Justice Department is engaging in “political prosecution” by pushing the charges after the case had been thrown out by the state court. Breen added the DOJ is treating Houck as though he were a “drug lord or a mafia boss.” “It put officers’ lives in danger,” Breen said. “It put the Houck family in danger. And it was an utter waste of judicial resources and taxpayer resources.”
If the FBI is able to aggressively raid a man’s home for simply protecting his young son even after the case has been dropped, the agency has far too much power.
This incidence is even more absurd in light of the fact that not a single arrest has been made after the 98 violent attacks against churches and pro-life organizations by abortion extremists following the leak of the Dobbs draft. An effective justice system must remain neutral and unbiased. It’s abundantly clear that that is no longer the case.
Thankfully, a growing number of Republican leaders and former FBI executives are condemning the Biden administration’s Department of Justice for its weaponization of law enforcement against conservatives.
U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley called on Attorney General Merrick Garland to “testify, under oath, before the Senate Judiciary Committee about your selective use and apparent political weaponization of the FACE Act.”
Pennsylvania Republican Sen. Doug Mastriano called the raid “an abuse of power that stands against the fundamental principles on which our country was founded.”
Hawley and Mastriano are absolutely right. There was no logical reason for the FBI’s excessive use of force against the Houck family, and it only revealed a blatant double standard against pro-lifers.
The Biden administration’s bias against conservatives should not be tolerated. Biden’s DOJ must provide an answer to the Houck family and American people for its outrageous abuse of power, and along with our Republican leaders, the American people should demand a restoration of transparency and accountability.
