Investigative reporter Christopher Rufo of City Journal obtained documents from the Human Relations, Diversity, and Equity department of the Los Angeles Unified School District, showing the district hosting academic conferences and providing curriculum materials and teacher training modules that press teachers to impose race, gender, and queer theory on students.Â
The documents include a PowerPoint presentation for the âStanding with LGBTQ+ Students, Staff, and Familiesâ conference on âBest Practices for Affirming LAUSDâs Queer Communities.â Sessions of the conference are titled âWelcoming Words & Safe Spaces: Supporting Students Who Are Both Neurodivergent & LGBTQIA+â; âLGBTQ-Inclusive Content and Pedagogy for Elementary and Middle School Classroomsâ; âWhat Your Queer Middle Schooler Wants You to Knowâ; and âBreaking the Binary in Education.âÂ
He also obtained a training for teachers called, âQueering Culture and Race.â The stated goals of the training are to engage âin learning about the history of the intersection between race, sexual orientation and gender,â and explore âwhat educators can do to support students.â It outlines the history of LGBT activism, starting with William Dorsey Swann, the first self-identified âqueen of drag.â It then claims that history is repeating itself and that â[t]he struggle experienced by William Dorsey Swann unfortunately continues today, and not just out in the community but in schoolsâ due to LGBT people not feeling accepted.
The documents also include the âSOGIE Handbook of Language & Vocabulary,â a glossary of terms pertaining to sexual orientation and gender identity and expression. In addition, the district is providing teachers with course materials from the consulting firm Woke Kindergarten, which teaches kindergartners to use various pronouns and adopt non-binary gender identities that âfeel good to you.â
Possibly the most concerning document is a policy bulletin from the district that instructs educators to address students by their preferred name and pronouns without parentsâ consent. It also directs them not to share a studentâs gender identity, even to their parents, without the teacherâs discretion:
âWhen communicating with a studentâs parent, legal guardian, or educational rights holder⌠school personnel should be aware that the student may not have disclosed their gender identity to their parents⌠[P]ersonnel should consult and work closely with the student to assess the degree to which, if any, the parent is aware of the studentâs gender identity or expression and is supportive of the student, and school personnel shall take into consideration the safety, health and well-being of the student in deciding whether to disclose the studentâs gender identity or expression to parents.â
This bulletin is instructing teachers to undermine parental rights and keep deeply personal and important information about a child from their parents if the teacher deems it necessary.Â
The left has gone so far as to disregard parents who they believe have the wrong opinions. As a result, children are left unprotected while they are fed lies and inundated with a dangerous ideology.
Every member of the LAUSD who is complicit in pushing this radical propaganda needs to be recalled. Parents should take their anger to the polls this fall or demand a recall election so parental rights can finally be restored.
