Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, one of the most respected minds in the entire country, recently made one of the most ignorant statements about abortion. While attacking a a pro-life Louisiana law, United States Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg claimed abortion is somehow safer than childbirth. The Louisiana law, known as Act 620, requires abortionists to have admitting privileges at a hospitals within 30 miles for patient emergencies that might occur during an abortion procedure,
“If the woman has a problem, it will be her local hospital that she will need to go to for the care, not something 30 miles from the clinic, which does not have a necessary relationship to where she lives”, [Ginsburg] said.
“Most of the people who get abortions never have any need to go to a hospital, isn’t that so?” she asked the attorneys, later adding: “You don’t dispute … that among medical procedures, first-trimester abortion is among the safest, far safer than childbirth.”
The Louisiana law would also implement a state-mandated 24-hour waiting period to give women time to think over the gravity of their decision.
What Justice Ginsburg is saying about abortion is inaccurate. Abortion is never safe for an unborn child, it literally ends a child’s life.
Abortion is not safe for a woman either. Period. Planned Parenthood refers to abortion on its website as a “safe, simple medical procedure,” and this is what they want you to believe. The reality is that there is no such thing as a safe abortion. An abortion is hardly safe for a mother, both in terms of medical safety, and mental trauma undergone. And abortion is certainly never safe for the baby being aborted.
No matter how hard a woman or family tries to erase the after-affects of an abortion. As mentioned above, abortion takes an innocent human life. Time, money, or possessions cannot erase the reality of what happens when an abortion takes place. It’s a decision that will have a lasting impact.
Every life has value because every person endowed by their Creator with life is created in the image of God. Every life deserves to be respected regardless of circumstances because human life is created with an inherent sanctity and dignity.
Abortion rips apart that sanctity and dignity and places women in vulnerable circumstances.
