Abortion is an Egregious Act of Violence Against Human Beings

Abortion is an egregious act of violence against innocent human beings and is responsible for the death of over 60 million children in the United States since Roe v. Wade in 1973.

WARNING: This post contains images of abortion victims.

In all its forms, abortion is violent and unleashes intense suffering on all its victims.

For preborn babies in the first 10 weeks of life, the go to method of abortion is the abortion pill. Planned Parenthood, has referred to what happens when a woman takes RU 486 in the casual terms of “it stops your pregnancy from happening.” What really happens, is that a developing human being is starved to death due to removing the connection to its mother. It is then expelled from the uterus.

Proponents of the abortion pill RU 486 often tout it as a harmless procedure. Just two years ago, Ann Furedi, Chief Executive of the British Pregnancy Advisory Service tried to argue in an article for Spiked Magazine that abortion pills are “safe and simple,” while simultaneously arguing that these drugs be available over the counter. However, women commonly report dangerous symptoms including “unbearable pain” for lengthy periods of time. “The pain made me scream in tortuous wails,” said one woman. “I lay on my boyfriend’s couch, the first night alone, and writhed, twisted and contorted my body praying that either I would die or the pain would stop.”

In a Live Action Video, former abortionist Dr. Anthony Levatino details what happens during a chemical (abortion pill) abortion

“At the abortion clinic or doctor’s office, the woman takes pills which contain mifepristone, also called RU 486. RU 486 blocks the action of a hormone called progesterone. When RU 486 blocks progesterone the lining of the mother’s uterus breaks down, cutting off blood and nourishment to the baby, who then dies inside the mother’s womb. Twenty-four to forty-eight hours after taking RU 486, the woman take misoprostol… that is administered either orally or vaginally. RU 486 and misoprostol together cause severe cramping, contractions, and often heavy bleeding to force the dead baby out of the mother’s uterus. The process can be very intense and painful, and the bleeding and contractions can last from a few hours to several days. While she could lose her baby anytime and anywhere during this process, the woman will often sit on a toilet as she prepares to expel the child, which she will then flush.”

Abortion advocates say that usage of the abortion pill is harmless to the mother, but accounts from women who have taken the abortion pill certainly have had negative side effects. According to the FDA, at least twenty-four women had even died from complications resulting from taking the abortion pill.

Live Action News noted that the number of complications and fatalities is likely much higher than that due to the fact that only about half of the states are required to report complications resulting from the abortion pill.

The further developed the pregnancy, the more violent abortions become. The most commonly used second-trimester abortion procedure is called a D&E abortion, which stands for dilation and evacuation. This type of abortion is committed between 13 and 24 weeks gestation. Quite literally, it is a removal of a baby from its mother’s womb by dismemberment of the baby. Live Action News notes:

As the babies get bigger and beyond the point of viability (babies can survive birth at 21 weeks), committing this type of abortion becomes more difficult for abortionists because of the level of violence that it entails.

Former abortion business owner Carol Everett once recalled how the abortionist she worked for had to use a good deal of energy to crush the baby’s skull in one of the final steps of a D&E abortion. “Harvey used to joke about getting tennis elbow from this technique,” she said, “and his right arm was actually slightly bigger than his left.”

The late Dr. Bernard Nathanson, a former abortionist turned pro-life activist, described a D&E abortion:

The D&E is performed by breaking the bag of water with a pointed instrument thrust through the partly dilated cervix, then inserting grasping and tearing instruments into the womb. The fetus is then quartered, the torso isolated and disemboweled. The head is crushed and extracted in pieces. The placenta is located and scraped off the wall of the womb. This completes the procedure save for the abortionist reassembling all the removed parts on a side table adjoining operating table.

Dr. Anthony Levatino, who himself performed over 1,200 abortions details what happens during an abortion in which suction is used:

“The baby has a heartbeat, fingers, toes, arms, and legs, but it’s bones are still weak and fragile. The suction is then turned on, with a force ten to twenty times more powerful than your household vacuum cleaner. The baby is rapidly ton apart by the suction, and squeezed through this tubing down into the suction machine, followed by the placenta. The abortionist uses a curette to scrape the lining of the uterus. A curette is basically a long-handled, curved blade. Once the uterus is empty, the speculum is removed and the abortion is complete.”

As Live Action News notes:

Women who abort this late in pregnancy can suffer major consequences, including death. While the abortion industry misleads Americans into believing abortion at this stage of pregnancy is only done to save the life of the mother or in cases of a fatal fetal diagnosis, the truth is that abortions this late in pregnancy are usually done on healthy babies, and abortion is legal up until birth for any reason—financial, emotional, and even familial—as was decided in Roe v. Wade‘s sister Supreme Court decision Doe v. Bolton.

According to the most recently available 2014 data from the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute, there are over 12,000 babies who are killed at or after the point of viability.

Additionally, the idea that late-term abortions are ever medically necessary to save the life of a mother is a myth. In a 1993 interview with American Medical News, late-term abortionist Martin Haskell who is credited with the horrid invention of partial-birth abortion, said: “I’ll be quite frank: most of my abortions are elective in that 20-24 week range…. In my particular case, probably 20% are for genetic reasons. And the other 80% are purely elective.”

In an interview with Christian News Network, Dr. Lawrence Koning, an OB-GYN in Corona, California, said:

“As an OB/GYN physician for 31 years, there is no medical situation that requires aborting/killing the baby in the third trimester to ‘save the mother’s life,’” Koning said in 2016. “Just deliver the baby by C-section and the baby has 95+% survival with readily available NICU care even at 28 weeks. C-section is quicker and safer than partial birth abortion for the mother.”

Abortion, whenever it occurs, regardless of the reason, is a tragic, dangerous occurrence. An abortion is hardly safe for a mother, both in terms of medical safety, and mental trauma undergone. And abortion is certainly never safe for the baby being aborted. Abortion is a tragic occurrence. Abortion is murder, it tears apart a human, and the consequences of having an abortion never go away.
