OB/GYN On New York Law: Abortion is Never Necessary to Save a Woman’s Life

On a weekend addition of Fox and Friends, on the Fox News Channel, the weekend anchors devoted a considerable amount of time to expressing outcry over the new atrocious, New York pro-abortion law signed into affect by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The recent New York law would allow abortions to be gruesomely committed up until birth, yet no other networks seemed to think the barbaric law worth covering as dangerously harmful to women – and certainly their children.

On the Sunday edition of Fox and Friends, fill-in anchor Katie Pavlich showed a clip of Governor Andrew Cuomo bragging that his state had
“the most aggressive women’s equality platform in the nation.” Pavlich then brought on Doctor Omar Hamada who had previously spoken out on Twitter against the law’s passage. Hamada had tweeted, “There’s not a single fetal or maternal condition that requires third-trimester abortion. Not one. Delivery, yes. Abortion, no.” After Pavlich brought Hamada on the show, Hamada again reiterated the point that he had made on Twitter, but elaborated more. Pavlich followed up on what he had said on Twitter, asking him about just what this new law would mean for women. Dr. Hamada elaborated:

It actually moves all the protections for the fetus by removing any homicidal protection. So, before, the New York Penal Code basically stated that, after 24 weeks, if a baby was killed, there was a risk of the perpetrator being charged with a homicide. That has been removed.

It allows for any health care practitioner that’s licensed or authorized … to perform an abortion, so it doesn’t have to be a physician. And it removes all restrictions at all for any type of abortion at any time for any reason.”

Dr. Hamada also addressed the cheering that could be heard when Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the bill into law, calling it a “travesty” and “unconscionable.” The OB/GYN noted that he has received threats, including death threats, since tweeting out against the new law.

The bill was passed on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion on demand for every state within the nation. However, the legislation is even more far reaching and dangerous than Roe v. Wade. The would allow late term abortions and would even allow people who are not doctors to perform them. Worse yet, the bill attempts to give the appearance of limiting late term abortions, but includes a very broad “health” exception for abortions after 24 weeks. The exception would allow women to have an abortion for up to nine months of pregnancy for “age, economic, social and emotional factors, rather than the biological definition of ‘health’ that normally comes to mind,” according to New York Right to Life.
