Donald Trump Confirms Mike Pence will be his 2020 Running Mate

In an interview that aired on live television on Sunday, President Donald Trump confirmed that current Vice President Mike Pence will serve as his running mate for the 2020 presidential elections. Trump said that he is “100% certain” Vice President Mike Pence will be his 2020 running mate. He also stated that Vice President Mike Pence has, “Been a terrific Vice President.”

Chuck Todd, host of MSNBC’s show Meet the Press, asked Trump about speculations that President Trump was considering someone other than Vice President Mike Pence for the role. Trump emphatically shot down those rumors, at the same time putting to rest rumors that he would refuse to leave office after serving two terms (assuming that he wins the 2020 presidential elections).

“I only joke,” Trump told Todd, adding moments later that “there won’t be a third term.”

“You will accept the results?” Todd asked.

“One hundred percent. Sure,” the president replied.

Trump tweeted a video on June 16 that voters might go so far as to re-elect him for an unprecedented third term, and that he stay in office beyond 2024.

However, when asked about those comments by MSNBC host Chuck Todd, President Trump replied that he only expressed those sentiments to stir up the media.

“I joke and I say, ‘Watch, I will drive Chuck Todd crazy,’” Trump told Todd.

“Speaking of driving people crazy, when you were asked about Mike Pence in 2024 and you … paused a minute about endorsing him as your successor, that got a lot of people going, ‘Is Mike Pence 100% on your ticket in 2020?’” Todd asked.

“Well, look, look — 100%, yes,” Trump said.

“[H]e’s been a terrific vice president. He’s my friend,” Trump added, saying there was “zero” chance that Pence would be replaced.

Trump said that he has not endorsed Pence for a 2024 Presidential run because that race is still years away. He also stated his doubts about Pence’s willingness to run for President.

“I mean, you know, I’m not even thinking of it. It’s so far out. I mean, It’s so far out. That would be the only reason. Now what happens in 2024? I don’t know that Mike is going to run. I don’t know who’s running or anything else,” said Trump.
