Kanye West, controversial rapper and husband of television celebrity Kim Kardashian sat down this week with radio host and his former bodyguard Big Boy to discuss Kanye’s recent huge change in his rapping career.
The “Gold Digger” star, has provocatively tweeted before on the subject of abortion, but his attitude appears to have changed considerably on a lot of issues, including the topic of abortion.
On October 25, 2019, Kanye dropped his album titled, JESUS IS KING, and the album is strikingly different from any of his past albums, such as My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, or the College Dropout.
The rap icon’s views haven’t just apparently changed on religion and politics. His songs on the new album tackle issues that affect the Black community. “Democrats had us voting Democrat for food stamps for years, bro. What you talking about? Guns in the 80s, taking the fathers out of the home, Plan B, lowering our votes, making us abort our children…. I can’t tell y’all how to feel. But what I can tell you honestly is how I feel.”
Kanye isn’t wrong. Abortion is in fact the most lethal form of racism, and there is no group that kills more African Americans than Planned Parenthood.
Kanye identified how different this is for him, and how his fans might not care for his new direction. “People said this is going to be horrible for your career,” he said to Big Boy. “Did you worry about that?” asked Big Boy. Kanye replied, “Man, I fear and love God. When you remove the fear and love of God, you create the fear and love of everything else.”
The self-proclaimed “greatest human artist of all time” said that he used his 2016 hospitalization as a way of getting out of the mental issues that he was struggling with at the time.
“The most space that I had to think is when I went to the hospital,” said West. “One of the things that happened when I went to the hospital is I started reading the Bible and I started writing and copying out Bible verses and a person came to my house that wasn’t a Christian and told me come over, and 30 minutes later I was in handcuffs headed to the hospital.”
“Now that I’m in service to Christ, my job is to spread the gospel, to let people know what Jesus has done for me,” West began in the preview clip. “I’ve spread a lot of things. There was a time I was letting you know what high fashion had done for me, I was letting you know what the Hennessy had done for me, but now I’m letting you know what Jesus has done for me, and in that I’m no longer a slave, I’m a son now, a son of God. I’m free.”
West started leading Sunday Service, a gospel-rap group that performs every Sunday in various locations. West acts as a preacher during the services. In September, West proclaimed that he had seen God “work miracles in [his] life.”
