UPDATE: Nearly 150,000 People Sign Petition Chastising Gov. Cuomo for Legalizing Late-Term Abortion

Nearly 150,000 people have signed a petition rebuking New York Governor Andrew Cuomo for celebrating the legalization of abortion up to any age by lighting up the World Trade Center pink.

The bill was passed with a vote of 38-24 and Governor Cuomo wasted no time in signing the bill into law. The law (signed into effect in January) now basically allows women to have an abortion legally up until the child’s birth.

As the Lifenews petition notes:

The One World Trade Center is a symbol of peace, national solidarity and our opposition to violence against the innocent. The decision to use this building, built on the ground where innocents died on 9/11 – including eleven unborn babies! – to celebrate the killing of the innocent unborn amounts to a horrific irony.

Yards away from the building, the 9/11 memorial explicitly honors the “unborn child” of each of the eleven pregnant women who died on 9/11.

The recent lawdeclares that “Every individual who becomes pregnant has the fundamental right to choose to carry the pregnancy to term, to give birth to a child, or to have an abortion.”

The bill was passed on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion on demand for every state within the nation. However, the law is even more far reaching and dangerous than Roe v. Wade. The law allows late term abortions and even allows people who are not doctors to perform them. Worse yet, the law attempts to give the appearance of limiting late term abortions, but includes a very broad “health” exception for abortions after 24 weeks. The exception would allow women to have an abortion for up to nine months of pregnancy for “age, economic, social and emotional factors, rather than the biological definition of ‘health’ that normally comes to mind,” according to New York Right to Life.

This law is pure barbarism, and it is absolutely heart-wrenching that Governor Cuomo ordered it to be celebrated in front of the entire city by lighting up what is supposed to be a symbol of love, peace, and hope in celebration of murder.
