San Francisco Bans Fur Sales to Protect Animals, but Doesn’t Ban Abortions?

Some politicians in San Francisco have decided that sales of fur coats and any other items with real fur such as gloves, hats, or key chains are a threat to the well being of animals. In response, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors decided to ban fur sales this past Tuesday in an effort to send a message to the rest of the world that the lives of animals matter. According to the Oakland Post, this action by the Board of Supervisors makes San Francisco the largest city in the world to ban fur sales. The ban is supposed to take affect on January 1, 2020 and is expected to dramatically impact the fur retail industry. West Hollywood and Berkeley also have banned the sale of fur.

What’s more than a little ironic is that apparently the San Francisco Board of Supervisors doesn’t feel the same way about the need to protect human life. It would seem that politicians in San Francisco have prioritized animal safety over the protections of baby humans in the womb.

Lifenews points out that less than eight months ago, “San Francisco city leaders examined an old auto shop and determined that it was the perfect place for Planned Parenthood to systematically kill unborn babies for profit.” More from Lifenews:

But San Francisco’s Supervisor Katy Tang, who wrote the ban, is more concerned about morals than economics.

“It is estimated that around the world some 50 million animals are slaughtered in gruesome ways so that we can wear their fur and look fashionable,” she told the San Francisco Chronicle.

She added, “My hope is that it will send a strong message to the rest of the world.”

But San Francisco does not seem to have a problem with the more than 60 million babieswho have been killed in the womb since Roe v. Wade in the United States alone, many of whom were slaughtered in gruesome ways – namely, dismemberment abortions, in which the baby is torn apart limb by limb.

This widespread massacre did not prevent San Francisco’s city leaders from allowing Planned Parenthood to install a surgical and medical abortion clinic in a former auto body shop in July 2017. The clinic was estimated to generate 20 percent more business than Planned Parenthood’s two existing San Francisco clinics combined. In this instance, perhaps San Francisco was more concerned about economics than morals.

A Gallup poll conducted in May of 2015 revealed that 32% of Americans (almost one-third) believe that animals should have the same rights as people.

The Bible teaches that humans are given domain over animals, and that animals do not have souls like humans, however Scripture does specifically state that righteous people should have “regard for the life” of animals.

Animal abuse is certainly not okay, but priorities have become dramatically skewed when animal protections take precedent over human rights.
