Granted, we probably don’t agree with rapper Cardi B on a lot of cultural or social issues, but you have to give praise where praise is due.
When it comes to pro life issues, Cardi B, definitely deserves respect and support from the pro life community for taking a strong stance in support of life, and simultaneously encouraging millions of moms to do the same.
Recently, it was discovered that Cardi is pregnant at perhaps the zenith of her career. Rumors have been swirling since February, but Cardi laid those to rest when she showed off her baby bump while in the middle of a recent performance on Saturday Night Live, to the delight of her audience and fans.
Many women in her circumstances would feel extreme pressure to have an abortion, and Cardi confirmed that people in the entertainment industry have pressured her to have an abortion. Women everywhere are experiencing the same pressures upon announcing their pregnancies. A report published in the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons in late 2017 revealed that 73.8 percent of women experienced “pressure” to abort their babies, and a full 58.3 percent chose abortion “to make others happy” instead of choosing the life of their child. Thankfully, Cardi is pushing back against the all-too-common narrative that women have to choose between being a mother or having a successful career.
“It just really bothers me and it disgusts me because I see a lot of women online like, ‘Oh, I feel sorry for you. Oh, your career is over,’” Cardi B said. “And it’s like, why can’t I have both? Like as a woman, why can’t I have both? Like, why do I gotta choose a career or a baby?… I want both… I don’t want people to make me feel like a blessing should be a regret.”
Fellow rapper Remy Ma posted a positive note on her Instagram after she saw Cardi B’s performance, praising Cardi B for being willing to take a stand against society’s conventional thought when it comes to a woman’s successful career. “I’m crying real tears—happy tears. For so many years they made us (women) feel like we had to pretend to be single, pretend to not have a real life, and put our lives on hold to ‘entertain’ the masses. Meanwhile, you feel trapped in your own body, a prisoner to your career, and so unhappy when you supposed to be having the time of your life. Cardi B, I am so happy you are free too,” she wrote.
Congratulations to Cardi B and her fiance Migos rapper Offset (real name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus), and thank you Cardi B, for encouraging and leading women to value their children.
