President Trump took to Twitter a few days ago to castigate the big social media giants like Facebook and Twitter for censoring conservative content.
On Saturday, the President tweeted: “Social Media is totally discriminating against Republican/Conservative voices. Speaking loudly and clearly for the Trump Administration, we won’t let that happen. They are closing down the opinions of many people on the RIGHT, while at the same time doing nothing to others. . .censorship is a very dangerous thing & absolutely impossible to police. If you are weeding out Fake News, there is nothing so Fake as CNN & MSNBC, & yet I do not ask that their sick behavior be removed. I get used to it and watch with a grain of salt, or don’t watch at all..”
The day before President Trump’s tweet, PragerU announced that Facebook was completely censoring their content. From their press release:
“Internal Facebook analytics reveal that as of Thursday, Aug. 16, at 10:00 PM PDT, posts by PragerU on the social media platform have been completely invisible to its more than 3 million followers. In a post by PragerU media personality Will Witt, the nonprofit revealed that the organization’s last nine posts have been blocked by the social network, including two videos which have been deleted completely as “hate speech.” Currently, visitors to PragerU’s Facebook page are unable to see any of its most recent posts:
“Our last 9 posts have been completely censored reaching 0 of our 3 million followers. At least two of our video posts were deleted last night for “hate speech” including a post of our recent video with The Conservative Millennial, Make Men Masculine Again.”
Facebook has since apologized – – saying it made a mistake – – but that is highly unlikely, given the fact this is the first time that Facebook has censored PragerU’s content. PragerU sued the social media giant last year for placing restrictions on its videos.
The problem has gotten to be so bad recently that conservative groups recently banded together to create a coalition insisting that these media and tech giants cease from censoring conservative content based solely on the fact that they disagree with the message.
