Democratic Governor Jerry Brown Compares Trump Supporters to Cave Dwellers

Democratic California Governor Jerry Brown compared Trump supporters to cave dwellers during a speech in New York City on Monday at a climate change event. The event in New York coincided with the United Nations Meeting.

According to Politico, he called Trump’s remarks on North Korea “stupid and dangerous and silly.”

“President Trump is the null hypothesis, which he’s proven,” Brown said. “Everything he’s doing is … stupid and dangerous and silly. I mean, come on, really, calling the North Korean dictator ‘Rocket Man’? … He is accelerating the reversal through his own absurdity.”

Trump has stated emphatically his belief that climate change is not really a threat and announced earlier this year his intention to withdraw the United States from the Paris climate agreement. Brown also said that Trump’s election has actually assisted the climate change movement because with Trump in office there is now “real adversary that is not believable, is not credible.”

Governor Jerry Brown also predicted that Trump’s presidency would fail very soon, stating his demise was only a matter of time. “These other powers are going to gang up on Mr. Trump, and he’s going to find out, ‘You’re fired,’” Brown said.

“It takes what we’re doing today and this week, and all the other things that we have to do to finally put the nail in, I don’t want to say in Trump’s coffin. … That’s a tweet, so I better not do that. But we’re getting there. We’re making change. So I’m very optimistic in the face of Washington’s absent leadership.”

Brown’s harsh criticisms and outright defiance of Trump are nothing new. In his State of the State speech given in Sacramento, California earlier at the beginning of the year, Governor Jerry Brown then promised to challenge Trump on issues such as immigration, health care, and the environment.

“Whatever they do in Washington, they can’t change the facts,” Brown said, according to Politico. “And these are the facts: The climate is changing, the temperatures are rising, and so are the oceans. Natural habitats everywhere are under stress.”

Brown said “the world knows this” and urged states and other countries to come together and work towards the common goal of reducing  greenhouse gas emissions regardless of federal policy.

Politico reports:

Brown, the Democratic governor of the nation’s most populous state, has been rushing to recruit other state and local governments to sign onto their own nonbinding climate agreements in defiance of Trump.
