Cupertino, California based tech giant Apple Inc. has announced plans to donate $1 million to radical Southern Poverty Law Group. The announcement was made by the company’s’ Chief Executive Tim Cook.
The Southern Poverty Law Center is widely known for not only being a liberal bastion of radical leftism, but is also responsible for inspiring and equipping Floyd Lee Corkins, who entered the Family Research Council on August 15, 2012 at 10:46am with a loaded semi-automatic pistol, 100 rounds of ammunition, and a big of Chick Fil A sandwiches. and shot the unarmed security guard on duty.
The domestic terrorist Corkins said that he was angry with the conservative views of Family Research Council. According to a Washington Post article at the time:
An FBI affidavit quotes 28-year-old Floyd Lee Corkins II of Herndon telling the guard, âI donât like your politicsâ as he pulled a 9mm Sig Sauer pistol from a backpack he had carried with him on Metrorail from East Falls Church.
D.C. police said that Corkins shot the guard, Leonardo R. Johnson, 46, once in the arm and that Johnson, though wounded, helped subdue the suspect and wrestle the gun from him in the buildingâs lobby on G Street NW.
In his bag, court documents say, police found 50 rounds of ammunition and 15 sandwiches from Chick-fil-A, which combined with the suspectâs statement added a political dimension to the shooting.
Leo Johnson heroically attacked the shooter despite being injured with a gunshot wound that shattered his arm.
The following conversation took place during the FBI interrogation of the shooter:
FBI: Now how did you… this building. This organization. Did you… did you, how did you find it earlier? Did you look it up online?
Corkins: It was a uh, Southern Poverty Law, lists, uh anti gay groups. I found them online. I did a little bit of research, went to the website. Stuff like that.
On February 6, the Southern Poverty Law Center was connected in Federal Court to this first domestic terrorism conviction in Washington, D.C. under the post 9/11 law.
Corkins admitted his intention to “kill the people in the building and then smear a Chick Fil A sandwich in their face.”
According to Lifenews, FRC’s President Tony Perkins said:
âThe SPLCâs reckless labeling has led to devastating consequences. Because of its âhate groupâ labeling, a deadly terrorist had a guidemap to FRC and other organizations. Our team is still dealing with the fallout of the attack, that was intended to have a chilling effect on organizations that are simply fighting for their values.â
âThe Southern Poverty Law Center, which has now been linked to domestic terrorism in federal court, should put an immediate stop to its practice of labeling organizations that oppose their [agenda],â continued Perkins.
Tim Cook also announced he is donating $1 million to the Anti-Defamation League. According to an article yesterday in AppleInsider, Apple opened up the option for iTunes users to donate to the Southern Poverty Law Center.
The company is enabling donations in increments of $5, $10, $25, $50, $100, or $200, and promising to transfer the whole amount to the SPLC. Links to donation pages can be found in both the iOS and desktop versions of the iTunes Store.
The Daily Caller reported that Cook informed Apple employees in a company memo that he will match their donations to either of the “human rights” organizations, Southern Poverty Law Center or the Anti-Defamation League through the end of September.
âI disagree with the president and others who believe that there is a moral equivalence between white supremacists and Nazis, and those who oppose them by standing up for human rights. Equating the two runs counter to our ideals as Americans,â Cook wrote. âAs a company, through our actions, our products and our voice, we will always work to ensure that everyone is treated equally and with respect.â
JP Morgan Chase also announced that it would split $2 million dollars in donation between the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Anti-Defamation League.
