South Carolina has traditionally done a pretty good job of protecting the preborn, The most recent action taken in support of mothers and children of the state of South Carolina has resulted in the halting of funding provided to South Carolina abortion clinics.
Just last week, South Carolina Governor, Henry McMaster issued an executive order banning abortion facilities from receiving any funding through tax dollars, grants, or any other state financial support.
President Trump signed into law a mandate allowing states to defund Planned Parenthood, America’s leading abortion provider.
According to LifeSiteNews, Planned Parenthood alone performs over 300,000 abortions each year, and has been involved in several scandals including the selling of body parts, covering up child sex abuse, and accepting racist donations.
The executive order issued by South Carolina Governor states in part:
Taxpayer dollars must not directly or indirectly subsidize abortion providers like Planned Parenthood…There are a variety of agencies, clinics, and medical entities in South Carolina that receive taxpayer funding to offer important women’s health and family planning services without performing abortions.
This is good news because there are currently three abortion clinics (including Planned Parenthood) that are reimbursed for some abortions by insurance companies such as Medicaid, for example.
The order also stated that the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services should seek waivers from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to allow the agency to exclude abortion facilities from the state’s Medicaid provider network, released last week through the Governor’s office.
Governor McMaster also orders that the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services works together with the Department of Health and Environmental Control to make a public list of the qualified pro-life women’s health centers operating within a twenty-five-mile radius of any abortion facilities – which will now be excluded from the state’s Medicaid provider network.
The Governor hopes that through this bill this action will provides incentives and encourage a pro-life attitude among South Carolina families. The executive order seeks to make women and families aware that there are many options other than having an abortion even when faced with an unexpected pregnancy.
South Carolina is just one of a number of states that are utilizing President Trump’s recent mandate allowing states to defund abortion providers such as Planned Parenthood. According to TheDailySignal, fifteen states have moved to defund Planned Parenthood in light of the harrowing, gruesome expose videos that were released to the public by David Daleiden and the Center for Medical Progress, showing illegal procedures executed in a number of Planned Parenthood’s abortion facilities.
