Once considered a prized destination for families and career, California's reputation has become tarnished by a culture that has ignored and even repudiated traditional norms. The ethics of bygone years, highly esteemed by our grandparents and proven to establish a stable society, are being replaced with a set of counterfeit proposals that spell disaster for our future and the quality of family life.

You have probably observed the not-so-subtle culture war taking place all around you – attacking the values of life, traditional marriage, and the authority of parents? It is happening in your public schools, your city, and even in private organizations such as the Boy Scouts of America.

Human life in the womb is sacred; yet tens of millions of preborn babies have been aborted (nationally) since the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision. This disregard of preborn lives is deadening our personal and corporate consciences to the supreme value God places on human life. Still, each year, a liberal majority of the California Legislature sends a resolution to Congress to uphold abortion-on-demand. The life of an elderly or disabled person may soon be negotiable as this same majority vote on whether doctors can assist in terminating the lives of the terminally ill. Traditional marriage - one man and one woman - is threatened with extinction in favor of marriage between any two people (or 3 or 4?). Adding salt to the wound, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has declared that parents no longer have a legal right to control the education of their children.

If you wish you could do more to affect public policy in California and would like to positively impact local and state politics with your Christian worldview, California Family Council (CFC) has a long-term plan to change the direction our state is headed…and you can participate.

California Family Council is responding to this social erosion by establishing local groups in churches of people who commit to addressing these issues. We call these Salt and Light groups.
